About Snipping Turtle

Hi! My name is Jaicee and I'm the founder and artist behind Snipping Turtle.

Based in the Pacific Northwest, I find inspiration from nature to create cute and happy animal-themed wall decor from cut and glued paper pieces. 

I have always been fascinated by the ability of art to transport me into other worlds. Whether I was gazing at landscape paintings and imagining myself walking through the scenery, getting lost in the pages of beautifully illustrated picture books, or interacting with clever characters as I traversed levels of video games, I felt the power of visual media to inspire daydreams and creative play.

My family nurtured my creativity from a young age. I grew up writing and illustrating short stories, cutting up magazines for collages, and making homemade birthday cards for loved ones. My pictures almost always involved animals because they reflected what was important to me—my love for nature and the creatures that inhabit it.

Growing up, I felt a deep connection to this planet and our fellow earthlings. I was always excited to flip over rocks in the backyard to see all the bugs crawling underneath. My mom kept tree frogs in my bedroom in a glass tank filled with native plants, and it was so cool being able to observe these special little guys on a daily basis. I considered my pets my best friends and siblings, and I often fell asleep on the floor beside my cat. I am so grateful to my parents for the frequent camping trips, beach trips, and simple walks around the neighborhood that further showed me just how magical it is to be alive by encouraging observation of our diverse environment. 

I believe that the art we are exposed to as young children influences our development and helps facilitate an interest in learning and the world around us.

As a lifelong lover of nature and animals, I hope my colorful cut paper collages can help kids (and kids at heart!) notice and appreciate the wonders of our beautiful planet.

Just as my parents did for me, I aim to spark an interest in wildlife in the next generation while encouraging outdoor exploration, learning, and healthy habits. My art is perfect for nurseries, kids' rooms, or any place in your home that could use a little extra joy. With each design, I strive to create something that not only enhances the room's decor but also fosters a love of the natural world in the little ones who see it every day.
